The PNJK’s 44th Founding Anniversary and General Assembly was celebrated on May 12, 2024, marking a significant milestone for the organization. Held annually on the second Sunday of May, making this year their 45th, this grand event brought together descendants and members of the institution under the theme “Nikkeijins – Padayon sa Pag-uswag” (“Nikkeijins – Continuing Progress”). The celebration served as an opportunity to honor the foundation’s history and update members on the organization’s accomplishments over the past year.
PNJK stands for Philippine Nikkei-Jin Kai, Inc, and is the official Davao Chapter for Nikkei-jin, as acknowledged by the PNLSC.

Arrival and Registration Descendants from various cities and provinces began arriving as early as 8:00 AM to register. Many families brought food and snacks to share, adding a communal and festive atmosphere to the event. Before the official program began, attendees benefited from a medical mission conducted by the PNJK Polyclinic & Diagnostic Center. Free services such as blood pressure monitoring, random blood sugar testing, and blood typing were made available to everyone. Additionally, photos of approved Nisei were displayed, allowing attendees to reflect on and celebrate their shared heritage.
The Official Program The event officially commenced at 9:00 AM with the full attendance of the PNJK Board of Directors (2023-2025). A highlight of the program was a special message delivered by Hon. Yoshihisa Ishikawa, Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Davao. His presence, along with his wife, Mrs. Cherry Pie Ishikawa, lent a prestigious air to the celebration.
The business portion of the program followed, beginning with the reading of the previous minutes, and continued with the President’s and Treasurer’s reports. These presentations provided a comprehensive overview of the organization’s operations and achievements over the past year.
Entertainment and Reports Adding a lively touch to the event, the all-female staff of PNJK Inc. performed a short dance intermission, much to the delight of the attendees. The program then resumed with the JPIC report, followed by the PNLSC report delivered by Ms. Helen T. Escovilla, PNJK Inc.’s Administrative Head, on behalf of Mr. Inomata. Professor Shun Ohno also graced the event with his presence.

Conclusion and Fellowship The program concluded earlier than expected, allowing participants to enjoy snacks and lunch together, including provisions for children. Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees, guest speakers, and staff shared a hearty fellowship lunch in Friendship Hall, marking the end of a successful celebration.
