The Philippine Nikkei-jin Legal Support Center has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support its continuing mission to assist war-displaced Japanese descendants (Nikkei-jin) in reconnecting with their identity, family history, and legal recognition in Japan.
Hosted on READYFOR, Japan’s first major crowdfunding service focused on social impact projects, the campaign invites supporters from around the world to contribute to the work of PNLSC in assisting Filipino-Japanese descendants affected by World War II.
A Mission Rooted in History
Thousands of children born to Japanese fathers and Filipino mothers were left behind in the Philippines after the war. Many grew up without documentation, family connections, or recognition of their Japanese heritage.
For decades, PNLSC has worked to change this reality by helping Nikkei-jin:
- locate missing Japanese relatives
- access historical and military records
- undergo DNA verification when possible
- receive legal assistance for nationality or family registry petitions
- reconnect with relatives and ancestral hometowns in Japan
These efforts have already helped many individuals rediscover their roots and rebuild connections across generations.
Why This Campaign Matters
Today, the remaining second-generation Nikkei-jin are already in their 80s and 90s. For many, time is running out to fulfill a lifelong wish to restore their link to Japan and their family heritage.
The crowdfunding campaign will help sustain PNLSC’s work, including:

- family tracing efforts in Japan and the Philippines
