PNJK Marks 45 Years with Culture, Community, and Creativity at 2025 General Assembly
On May 18, 2025, the Philippine Nikkei-jin Kai, Inc. (PNJK) gathered descendants of Japanese nationals from across Davao to celebrate its 45th founding anniversary, a heartfelt reunion of families and heritage under the theme “A Celebration of Shared History and a Joyful Anticipation of the Future.”
The celebration began with free medical services offered by PNJK Polyclinic and Diagnostic Center, helping attendees with random blood sugar checks and blood typing, a practical gesture of care for its aging second-generation (Nisei) members.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of PNJK’s new Board of Trustees for 2025–2027, followed by a cultural showcase where second-generation Nikkei-jin were dressed in traditional Yukata robes, a moving tribute to their Japanese roots. Guests watched proudly as the Nisei embodied the beauty and dignity of Japanese tradition. Best of all, each participant was gifted their Yukata to bring home as a keepsake.
Adding a creative twist to the day, a group of professional nail artists from Japan, Ms. Kouno Naoe, Ms. Kouno Yuriko, Ms. Shindo Mayumi, Ms. Daimon Maiko, and Ms. Arika Matsuzaki, offered free nail art to attendees and gave away nail kits and supplies. Their presence symbolized not just beauty but a deeper cross-cultural bridge between Japan and its overseas descendants.

Special awards and plaques of recognition were given to long-time PNJK members and board members, including Judge Antonina B. Escovilla, Mrs. Carmen C. Apigo, and Mrs. Adelaida S. Panaguiton, for their lifelong contributions to the Nikkei-jin cause.
“This wasn’t just a celebration. It was a beautiful reminder that the Nikkei-jin community is strong, proud, and looking toward the future.”
The PNJK General Assembly closed on a high note, marked by connection, tradition, and a renewed sense of shared identity.
